Featuring The Mendelssohn Chorale
Without a doubt, Handel's Messiah is the best-known and most-often-sung choral work ever written! Its Hallelujah! chorus ranks with the opening of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony as one of the most universally identifiable pieces of music. Even though Messiah is most often associated with the Christmas season, Handel envisioned it as an Eastertide oratorio. His masterpiece – almost an opera without stage action -- dramatically moves from prophecies of the Messiah through Jesus' birth, death, and resurrection to the promise of his triumphal return. This will be the RSO's first performance of the entire Messiah.
